Expressions Tea Salted Caramel Masala Chai

Recipe developed exclusively for Expressions Masala Chai Tea

(Makes 2 Cups)

Pure unadulterated indulgence. This sweet spiced tea makes for a crowd pleasing sweet ending to a long lazy lunch or wintery dinner.

 

Ingredients:

For the salted caramel: 

200g Light Brown Sugar

30ml Water

170ml Cream

1tsp Vanilla Essence

2 tsp Sea Salt Flakes

 

For the Tea:

300ml Full Cream Milk

300ml Water

2 Tbsp Expressions Masala Chai Tea Premix

1 heaped Tbsp Salted Caramel

 

***substitute the homemade salted caramel with a store-bought caramel by adding 1 heaped Tbsp Caramel and a 1/4tsp of good quality Sea Salt

 

Method:

For the Salted Caramel – 

  1. Place the brown sugar and water into a saucepan at a medium heat stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Stop stirring and let the sugar water bubble and thicken. 
  3. as it starts to darken in colour, remove from the heat and add in the cream, stirring well to combine. The cold cream may cause some bits of the sugary caramel to harden but continue to mix and it will soften.
  4. Stir in the vanilla and sea salt.
  5. Cool and pour the caramel into a jar and store in the fridge for up o two weeks.

For the Tea – 

  1. Place the milk, water & Expressions Chai Tea Premix into a pot on the stove top and bring to the boil. 
  2. Remove from the heat, stir in the salted caramel and serve with an additional sprinkle of sea salt if desired.
